MIGRATIONS IN MUSEUMS _ BERLIN 22-25 OCTUBRE

Rete G2 – Seconde Generazioni

(Second Generation Network) Italy

g2@secondegenerazioni.it

"How to represent and/or exhibit diversity in Europe?"

When speaking about diversity or its representation, we believe as a second generation migrants' network, in self-representation and in working with our own cultural resources (there are many artists within our group), with the communities, and the "story holders". The work of artists goes beyond representation and the production of visual items. Rather, it has to do with cultural mediation, and the transfer of tools to others, by sharing skills and facilitating processes that allow the community and subjects to speak out and tell our own history, needs and wishes. By promoting direct participation of the children of migrants in the narration of stories, and the recovery of memory, museums can contribute to a closer, trustworthier image of migration's past, present and future. By doing so, immigrants feel included, integration is promoted and society encouraged to accept and celebrate cultural diversity.

DECLARACION DE RIVAS VACIA MADRID

4/09/2008

SEPTIEMBRE 11-13 2008 RIVAS MADRID, MADRID

The Mirror Stage

17.09.2008 - 29.09.2008
Limassol, Cyprus

The events are focused in the presupposition that video has reached a level of consciousness that could potentially be determined through its contradictions. As such the program looks at video through the Lacanian, “Mirror Stage”. That is, how the reflected image acts as a basic ingredient in the constitution of the picture from the subject and how this can be translated as commentary on the state of video, today.

Refugiados

Millions of refugees are waiting desperately for a place to start a new life. Most of them are in horrible circumstances outside of Europe, in Africa, in Iran, Pakistan and so on. Only a minority of refugees make it to Europe...

From Art to Activism: A History of Images in Movement

In this essay, María Rosa Jijón demonstrates how an artist-turned-immigrant can foray into the realm of activism without abandoning the working premises of symbolic production. The essay offers a perspective on the new political subject of our era, an era characterized by the mobility of people and capital resulting from the macroeconomic policies that affect the greater part of the world. It is an autobiographical journey that analyzes the opened channels of communication and the new forms of representation employed by social organizations struggling for the rights of immigrant workers and their families. Film, video, photography, writing—forums that previously served only art—are enriched by new content, lives and stories that come straight from the source and facilitate the political processes of social justice. Italy, a country with a colonialist past, refuses to accept its new multi-ethnic, pluricultural image and appeals to a fixed identity, a stereotype that has been superseded, having never truly existed in the first place. It is against this backdrop that organizations of first and second generation Italians are appearing and, in the face of prejudice, inventing new mechanisms of cultural transformation. more

VIDEO EN MIART _ ANTONIO AREVALO CURADOR

Fiera Milano City
4 - 7 aprile 2008

Atlante Latinoamericano

MiArt 08

Padiglione 2 Anteprima, stand D 16

Edward Said, Il mio diritto al ritorno
